Ho Chi Minh’s Philosophy of Human Development: Implications for Building High-Quality Human Resources in Contemporary Vietnam
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ho Chi Minh’s philosophy of human development occupies a foundational position in Vietnamese revolutionary thought, yet its potential contributions to the international discourse on human resource development remain largely unexplored. This study employs qualitative documentary analysis to examine the core components of Ho Chi Minh’s thought on human development as articulated in his published writings, and to assess their contemporary relevance for building high-quality human resources in Vietnam. The thematic analysis identifies three interconnected philosophical pillars: holistic education integrating moral and intellectual formation, the dialectical unity of virtue and professional competence, and lifelong learning as a social imperative. Through comparative engagement with human capital theory, the capability approach, and the lifelong learning paradigm, the study demonstrates that Ho Chi Minh’s philosophy addresses dimensions of human development that both converge with and extend beyond these established international frameworks. The findings indicate that his integrated vision of human development, which refuses to separate economic productivity from ethical formation or technical competence from moral responsibility, provides a coherent philosophical foundation for Vietnam’s contemporary strategy of high-quality human resource development in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and deepening international integration. The study contributes to the growing recognition that non-Western intellectual traditions offer substantive resources for enriching the global understanding of human development.
